Privacy policy

TabHalo does not collect your data.

Last updated: 8 October 2026

TabHalo is a browser extension that marks tabs with a color, a symbol or a label. It works entirely inside your browser. This page explains exactly what that means, for the extension and for this website.

The extension

What it stores. Your marks (the color and label you give a tab, with the tab's address so the mark can be restored after a restart), your rules, labels, custom colors and display settings. All of this is kept in your browser's local extension storage on your own device. It is never sent anywhere, and it is not synced through your Google account.

What it does not do. TabHalo has no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. It does not read or store the content of the pages you visit, and it does not send your browsing history, tab titles or addresses to us or to anyone else. It does not load or run remote code.

The one network request: Pro licenses. If you buy Pro Lifetime, you paste a license key into the extension. To activate it, and about once a week afterwards, TabHalo sends the license key, our organization id and a random device name (for example tabhalo-k3j9xa) to Polar (api.polar.sh), our payment provider, to confirm the license and count your devices. Nothing else is sent: no tab, page or browsing data. Without a license key, TabHalo contacts no server of ours or of any third party; its only request is the one for the marked site's own icon file described above. Polar processes your purchase as merchant of record under its own privacy policy; we never see your payment details.

What it reads, locally. To do its job TabHalo reads the title, address and icon of your tabs inside your browser. It uses them to apply and restore marks, to match your rules and to list your marked tabs. To draw the colored icon it requests the icon file that the marked site itself already provides; no other site is contacted.

Permissions.

Deleting your data. Remove a mark from the popup, or uninstall the extension; its stored data is deleted by your browser. Press “Deactivate this device” before uninstalling to free the device slot of your Pro license.

Changes. If TabHalo ever needs to send more data off your device than described above, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be described in plain language.
